Social Media is a crucial part in marketing in today’s World. It can be used to market your product, generate leads, and build a brand. With so many people using various social media on a daily basis, for many hours throughout the day, it is important that you are familiar with social media, and the tools you have at your fingertips to promote yourself!
Whether you are a new business and you are just getting started, or you have been on social media for years, follow these tips to help you progress, and make your social media solid!
- Have a Plan/Goals/Objective
Having a solid plan, and goals are essential, if you want your social media to take off, and get you the exposure and engagement you are looking for.
Goals help you to achieve what you set out to do, and allow you to evolve your strategies over time. If you want to reach 500 followers within the first month, then you need to know how, when, why, where and who you are going to capture to make this happen.
Your social media plan should consist of mini-plans for each social media platform you expect to be active on.
It is important to not overdo it in the beginning, so start with one or two social media accounts, and as you progress, dive in to more options like Pinterest and LinkedIn.
- Know Your Audience
This one is particularly important, especially if you plan to run ad campaigns through Facebook and Instagram, etc. Knowing your audience is essential to your social media. Figure out what it is that your particular audience wants to hear and know. If you own a coffee shop, do they want to know about where you get your coffee beans? Or do they want to watch a video of how you make your coffee? Is it mostly the younger generation who stop in and sit down, or is it the older generation who come in and get some of their work done?
Who is your social media going to target? Think carefully about it, and spend time creating a plan that works for them.
Once you get a feel for who your target audience is, you’re better equipped to help them. They want to deal with businesses who care about them and their needs, and just by spending some time on getting to know them, this will help you greatly!
- Post Consistently
Try to develop a routine posting schedule and stick to it. The more content you have out there, the more it will be seen and the more interaction you will get. That doesn’t mean to say that you should post and share anything and everything…make it relevant and exciting. Focus on quality over quantity.
Figure out how often you want to post, what content it is you want to post, and then make a plan and stick to it as best you can!
- Run competitions/giveaways
Creating competitions and giveaways on your social media is a great way to entice a larger audience and boost interaction on your page. In order to get people interested and engaging, you need to make sure that you are sharing something of value, something that people want to be a part of, and have a chance at winning/receiving.
Great ways to get as much engagement as possible, is to ensure that your audience is doing their work too. Their tasks should include sharing the post, liking your page, following you on Instagram etc. Make them work for it, and get the word out their to other potential audience members. Before you know it, you will have hundreds of more followers and people who enjoy being a part of your social media!
- Make use of visuals
Photos and videos are proven to get more interaction than any other types of posts. People love a good visual…it entices them, and they are more likely to be drawn in and interact with the post. Instagram is the second biggest social media platform, and it is solely based on photos and videos….if that doesn’t prove how important visuals are, then I don’t know what does 😉
There are so many tools out there now for creating great visuals, without needing to be a graphic designer. One of our favorites is canva.com. It allows you to create images, brochures, flyers, invitations etc, edit them and download them for free. A great tool for spicing up your social media. Of course, if you are familiar with programs like Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, then these can also be great tools to use.
Videos are also important now. It allows your audience to connect with you, and be apart of your life without being in the same place as you. It allows your audience to get to know you in a way they wouldn’t otherwise. They’ll see you’re a business owner who cares and that will bring more results than anything!
- Interact with your audience
Lastly, pay attention to the things your audience are posting on your page and theirs. Make sure you like, comment or chat to them about things they have posted or shared. Be genuine and you will be amazed at the results for your business!
We could go on all day with other great tips, but this should give you a great head start on your social media journey! Like always, if you have any questions, or need help with your social media or website, we are here to help!
